A system and method for controlling an electronic engine controller (20) to automatically start the engine (12) at a programmable day/date and time, includes comparing the current day/date and time to a day/date and time previously stored in a programmable memory (28), determining whether current conditions are acceptable for automatically starting the engine, and controlling the engine to automatically start the engine beginning at the programmed day/date and time. In one embodiment, a remotely located computer (206) transmits a signal to co-ordinate automatic starting of a plurality of engines, such as in a truck/bus fleet (200, 202) or other equipment. Security features are provided to reduce the possibility of unauthorized use/theft of a vehicle or other equipment after being automatically started and may include limiting distance traveled, limiting maximum speed, and/or limiting any movement of the vehicle/equipment.
L'invention concerne un système et un procédé de commande d'un contrôleur de moteur électronique (20) destiné au démarrage automatique du moteur (12) à un jour/une date et une heure programmables. Ledit procédé consiste à comparer le jour/la date et l'heure courants à un jour/une date et une heure stockés au préalable dans une mémoire programmable (28), à déterminer si les conditions courantes permettent le démarrage automatique du moteur, et à commander le moteur de manière que ce dernier démarre au jour/à la date et à l'heure programmés. Dans un mode de réalisation, un ordinateur disposé à distance (206) transmet un signal de manière à coordonner le démarrage automatique d'une pluralité de moteurs, par exemple dans un parc de camions/de bus (200, 202) ou d'autres équipements. Des éléments de sécurité servent à réduire la possibilité d'utilisation non autorisée ou de vol d'un véhicule ou d'un autre équipement après démarrage automatique. Lesdits éléments de sécurité peuvent servir à limiter la distance parcourue, à limiter la vitesse maximale et/ou à limiter tout mouvement du véhicule/équipement.
