ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An automobile engine heater for connection to hoses of the engine coolant system has a jacket wall, a metal sheathed heating element supported from the wall for immersion within the coolant, and a thermostatic control in heat transfer relation with the exterior surface of the wall. A heat transfer tube is in heat transfer relation with the heating element and the interior surface of the wall beneath the thermostat. When operated without the heating element being immersed the heat transfer tube dissipates heat from the heating element so as to prevent element burn-out. The thermostat limits the temperature attained by the wall.
