Engine system comprising a compression ignition engine (20) including at least one combustion chamber and a cold flame vaporizer (40) in which a fuel is partially oxidized in preheated air to form a cold flame gas. The cold flame vaporizer (40) is in fluid communication with the combustion chamber of the compression ignition engine (20). There is further provided means (50) for supplying air such that the cold flame gas can be mixed with the additional air before being injected into the combustion chamber, and means (22) for injecting a pilot fuel into the combustion chamber, thereby producing a pilot flame in the combustion chamber which ignites the mixture of cold flame gas and air. There is also provided a method for a substantially NOx-free combustion of diesel fuel in a compression ignition engine (20).

L'invention concerne un système de moteur qui comprend un moteur à combustion par compression (20) doté d'au moins une chambre de combustion et d'un vaporiseur en flamme froide (40) où un carburant est partiellement oxydé sous air préchauffé pour la formation d'un gaz en flamme froide. Le vaporiseur (40) est en communication fluidique avec la chambre de combustion du moteur décrit (20). On décrit en outre un système (50) de fourniture d'air fonctionnant de sorte que la flamme considérée puisse être mélangée avec l'air additionnel avant son injection dans la chambre, et un système (22) d'injection de carburant pilote dans ladite chambre, ce qui produit une flamme pilote dans cette chambre allumant le mélange entre ce gaz et l'air. On décrit en outre un procédé de combustion sensiblement dépourvue de NOx de carburant diesel dans un moteur à combustion par compression (20).
