A high speed engineering vehicle (10) has sprung axles located for vertical movement by linkage and locating arms and a unit (15) between each axle and the body of the vehicle for high speed use, the suspension unit (15) including a conpressible fluid medium providing both springing and damping action. The vehicle (10) also includes a suspension lock (16) with each suspension unit (15) to limit the vertical movement of the suspension unit (15) or to completely isolate it. Its preferred form comprises a hydraulically operated cylinder and ram attached to the chassis, and when required extends down to the axle to prevent vehicle movement relative to the axle, for example during digging operations.

Engin de terrassement (10) à grande vitesse, comportant des essieux suspendus positionnés, en débattement vertical, par des bras de liaison et positionnement, et un élément de suspension (15) entre chaque essieu et la caisse de l'engin, cette configuration le destinant à une utilisation à grande vitesse. L'élément de suspension (15) renferme un milieu hydraulique compressible assurant les fonctions à la fois de suspension et d'amortissement. L'engin (10) comporte également un verrouillage de suspension (16) agissant sur chaque élément de suspension (15) afin de limiter le débattement vertical de cet élément (15) ou de l'isoler complètement. Dans sa forme de réalisation préférentielle, un vérin hydraulique solidaire du châssis assure, quand c'est nécessaire, l'extension de l'essieu pour empêcher tout mouvement de la caisse par rapport à celui-ci, comme par exemple au cours des opérations de fouille.
