One embodiment of the present invention sets forth a method for autonomously validating the time and frequency data obtained from multiple sources, and generating a suitable estimate of the frequency difference between the client clock and the source. The method includes the steps of protocol data unit validation (320), offset measurement (330), minimum offset filtering (340), and frequency filtering (350). With these steps, the negative effects of packet delay variation may be mitigated and a frequency estimate is determined for the source in question, together with an associated validity status. Consequently, quality control of the local clock is achieved in packet networks at significantly reduced cost and decreased level of complexity relative to prior art approaches.

La présente invention concerne, dans un mode de réalisation, un procédé destiné à valider de manière autonome les données d'heure et de fréquence obtenues de plusieurs sources, et à générer une estimation appropriée de la différence de fréquence entre l'horloge client et la source. Le procédé comprend les étapes suivantes : validation unitaire des données de protocole, mesure de décalage, filtrage de décalage minimal et filtrage de fréquence. Le procédé permet d'atténuer les effets négatifs d'une variation de délai de paquet et de déterminer une estimation de fréquence pour la source en question, ainsi qu'un état de validité associé. On obtient ainsi un contrôle qualité de l'horloge locale dans des réseaux à commutation par paquets de manière sensiblement plus économique et simple par rapport aux techniques antérieures.
