A surgical stent (10) is provided which can be radially expanded away from a central axis (2) within a body lumen, such as an artery. The stent (10) is formed form a series of struts (20) circumscribing a cylindrical contour of the stent (10). Each strut (20) has a series of bends (30) formed therein with each bend including at least one trough (32) and at least one crest (36). Gaps (40) are provided between adjacent struts (20). Each gap (40) is spanned by an axial element such as a tie bar (50) or links (180). Each tie bar (50) attaches to adjacent struts (20) through troughs (32) so that when the stent (10) is radially expanded, the struts (20) are not drawn together, but rather maintain their position and the stent (10) hence maintains its axial length without contracting. Other elements such as the links (180) can be provided spanning the gaps (140) to provide enhanced flexibility for the surgical stent (110) including such links (180).

L'invention concerne une prothèse endovasculaire chirurgicale (10) pouvant s'étendre radialement depuis un axe central (2) à l'intérieur d'une lumière corporelle, par exemple une artère. Cette prothèse endovasculaire (10) est constituée d'une série de traverses (20), qui entourent le contour cylindrique de ladite prothèse (10). Chacune de ces traverses (20) renferme une série de courbures (30), chaque courbure présentant au moins un creux (32) et au moins une protubérance (36). Des espaces (40) sont en outre ménagés entre les traverses adjacentes (20). Chaque espace (40) est recouvert par un élément axial, par exemple une barre de raccordement (50) ou des liens (180). Chaque barre de raccordement (50) est reliée à des traverses adjacentes (20) par l'intermédiaire desdits creux (32), de sorte que quand la prothèse (10) s'étend radialement, ces creux (32), loin de se rapprocher, restent en position et permettent ainsi à ladite prothèse (10) de conserver toute sa longueur axiale sans se contracter. D'autres éléments, tels que lesdits liens (180), peuvent venir recouvrir les espaces (140) afin de conférer une flexibilité améliorée à la prothèse endovasculaire chirurgicale (110) pourvue de tels liens (180).
