The invention concerns an improved snow-guard designed to be installed on a snowmobile, comprising a chassis with a rear end, a bumper attached to the rear end of the chassis and a caterpillar track of a specified height housed underneath the chassis. The snow-guard is made of semi-flexible material and includes an upper section with an upper edge and a lower section with a lower edge. The upper section has its upper edge attached to the rear end of the chassis above the bumper in such a manner as to allow it to pivot. When the vehicle is stationary, the upper section rests on the bumper. The lower section points down and forward, and its lower edge is approximately at the mid-point in the height of the caterpillar track when the vehicle is stationary. When the snowmobile is placed in reverse, the lower section of the snow-guard bends slightly towards the track under the snowmobile's chassis and has the effect of compacting the snow, thereby raising the rear of the snowmobile by providing a hardened surface and improved traction for the caterpillar track. When the snowmobile is moving forward, the snow-guard prevents snow and other debris from being projected behind the snowmobile. The invention also concerns a snow-guard of the type mentioned previously, mounted on a removable support.
L'invention concerne un garde-neige amélioré conçu pour être installé sur une motoneige comprenant un châssis pourvu d'une extrémité arrière, un pare-chocs fixé à l'extrémité arrière et une chenille de traction de hauteur donnée disposée sous le châssis. Ce garde-neige est fait d'un matériau semi-flexible et comprend une partie supérieure pourvue d'une arête supérieure et une partie inférieure pourvue d'une arête inférieure. La partie supérieure a son arête supérieure fixée de façon pivotante à l'extrémité arrière du châssis au-dessus de pare-chocs. Au repos, la partie supérieure s'appuie sur le pare-chocs. La partie inférieure est orientée vers le bas et l'avant et a son arête inférieure qui, au repos, est sensiblement à mi-hauteur de la chenille de traction. Lorsque la motoneige est opérée en marche arrière, la partie inférieure du garde-neige se replie légèrement vers la chenille de traction sous le châssis de la motoneige et permet de soulever l'arrière de la motoneige et de compacter la neige pour ainsi offrir une surface durcie et une meilleure traction à la chenille. En marche avant, le garde-neige empêche la neige ou autres débris d'être projetés à l'arrière de la motoneige. L'invention concerne aussi un garde-neige du type mentionné précédemment, monté sur un support amovible.
