The present invention relates to enhancement of anti-tubercular activity of active fraction isolated from Salicornia brachiata. The invention also discloses the non-toxic nature of the fraction and positively identifies Sucrose as its main constituent. Pure Sucrose is shown to have no anti- tubercular activity indicating thereby that activity of the fraction resides in one or more of the minor constituents. The minor constituents are shown to be relatively low molecular weight entities and a chromatographic technique is disclosed for separating them from the bulk sucrose to probe their activities and structures in detail, as also the possibility of their synthesis if the leads thrown up are novel.
L'invention porte sur l'amélioration de l'activité antituberculeuse d'une fraction active isolée à partir de Salicornia brachiata. L'invention concerne aussi la nature non toxique de ladite fraction et identifie de manière certaine le sucrose comme composant principal de cette dernière. Il a été démontré que le sucrose pur ne possède pas d'activité antituberculeuse, ce qui indique que l'activité de la fraction réside dans un ou plusieurs de ses constituants secondaires. Il a été démontré que les constitutants secondaires sont des entités de poids moléculaire relativement faible, et l'invention se rapporte à une technique chromatographique qui permet de les séparer du sucrose en vrac afin d'examiner dans le détail leurs activités et leurs structures, de même que la possibilité de les synthétiser dans le cas où les pistes identifiées seraient novatrices.
