- 1 - Abstract of the Disclosure In accordance with the present invention, a container for heating a foodstuff or other material in a microwave oven is provided with a mechanism for generating at least one higher order mode of microwave energy to give more even or a particular desired distribution of heating. This result can be achieved by a stepped structure protruding into or out of the container from a surface thereof, usually the bottom surface, or by a dielectric wall structure that comprises at least two contiguous dielectric wall portions of respectively different electrical thickness.
