An entry structure for a playground slide has a floor, two side walls and a transverse bar extending between the upper forward portions of the side walls. The bar is located close enough to the floor to urge a child to assume a sittingposition in order to gain access to the slide, and further the bar has a cross-section of a shape and size that discourage a child from using it for inappropriate or dangerous activities. Specifically, the bar member is of lenticular configuration in cross-section, and is too large to allow a child to grip the bar for purposes ofinappropriate play, swinging, etc.
