Control of a water/wastewater treatment system is effected by sensing the oxidation reduction potential (ORP) at various parts of the system and using neuro-adaptive process control techniques to make adjustments when necessary based on the ORP values. Internal nitrate recycling, sludge return, organic substrate addition and/or aeration can be adjusted to achieve the desired environmental conditions. In the event that phosphorus removal is necessary, the system can be used to assure proper detention time needed for biological phosphorus uptake.

La régulation d'un système de traitement d'eaux/eaux usées se fait par détection du potentiel d'oxydo-réduction (POR) en diverses parties du système et par utilisation de techniques de contrôle de procédé de type neuroadaptation pour pouvoir effectuer les ajustements, lorsqu'ils sont requis, en fonction des valeurs POR. Le recyclage interne du nitrate, le retour des boues, l'addition d'un substrat organique et (ou) l'aération peuvent être ajustés pour obtenir les conditions environnementales souhaitées. S'il faut éliminer le phosphore, le système permet d'obtenir le temps de séjour approprié, nécessaire pour la déphosphatation biologique.
