An electronic data logging device collects environmental data measured by at least one sensor. A microprocessor has first memory means to run programming which controls the actions of the data logging device. A sensor connection means connects the data logging device to a sensor device and enables electronic communication therewith, while a second memory means for storing software is used to run the data logging device and to store the collected data. A power supply means supplies power to the microprocessor. A sensor pod is provided for measuring sensory data and for communicating the measured sensory data to the electronic data logging device, as well as an electronic data collection system comprising the electronic data logging device and at least one sensor pod, the electronic data logging device being operably connected with each sensor device by wired or wireless means to facilitate electronic communication therewith and transmission of sensory data therefrom.
