An environmentally friendly autoxidisable filmforming alkyd polymer coating composition which comprises liquid carrier, autoxidation catalyst and autoxidisable alkyd film-forming polymer at least some of which is a polyester of a polycarboxylate and a polyol containing more than three hydroxyl groups at least some of which are esterified by autoxidisable hydrocarbylcarbonyl moieties characterised in that the polyol comprises an anhydroalditol.
