Environmentally improved alternatives to lead shot are provided that overcoat a lead core with a chemically inert polymer bonded thereto by heating lead shot coated with the polymer above the melting point of the lead shot, or by substituting for lead a combination of dense metal and light metal, and either a core/coating bimetallic sphere relationship or a matrix of light metal provided with powder of a heavy metal embedded therein. The composite shot exhibits a density similar to that of lead.

Variantes de projectiles en plomb présentant des améliorations par rapport à l'environnement. Les grenailles de plomb formant noyau sont recouvertes d'un polymère chimiquement inerte que l'on soude sur le noyau en plomb en chauffant ce dernier à une température supérieure au point de fusion du plomb. On peut aussi remplacer le plomb par du métal lourd et du métal léger combinés, et soit une relation de sphère bimétallique de noyau/revêtement, soit une matrice de métal léger qui enrobe une poudre de métal lourd. Le projectile composite présente une densité similaire à celle du plomb.
