A lightweight, self sealing economical burial vault and burial vault system is described for placing underground to protect a decedent confinement chamber, such as a casket, coffin, or urn, as well as capsules of various sorts such as time capsules, from natural destructive elements, preventing any leaching of chemicals or unnatural potentially environmentally dangerous substances into the surrounding environment. Uniquely made of chemical resistant thermoplastic formed, bonded and/or welded together formed with an innovative and unique self sealing seam between the box and cover creating a hermetic seal.
