A492 ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Compounds of the formula (I) ( I ) Image ( wherein R is hydrogen or a pharmacologically acceptable cation ) may be prepared by incubating microsomes from mammalian tissue with a prostaglandin endoper- oxide. The compound of formula ( I ) wherein R is hydrogen is identified as prostacyclin. The compounds of formula ( I ) are novel and exhibit a variety of pharmacological properties including blood platelet anti-aggregatory activity, vasodilatory activity, wound-healing activity and reduction of gastric secretion. The said anti-aggregatory activity of the compounds is particularly potent. The compounds of formula ( I ) may be incorporated into pharmaceutical compositions for human or veterinary medical use.
