A nucleic acid sequence is provided which encodes a gibberellin 2-oxidase gene which catalyses the 2.beta.-oxidation of a gibberellin molecule to introduce a hydroxyl group at C-2 and further catalyses the oxidation of the hydroxyl group introduced at C-2 to yield the ketone derivative. Such sequences can find application in the preparation of transgenic plants with altered levels of gebberellin 2-oxidase.

L'invention se rapporte à une séquence d'acide nucléique codant pour un gène de gibbérelline 2-oxydase qui catalyse l'oxydation-2.beta. d'une molécule de gibbérelline de façon à introduire un groupe hydroxyle en C-2 et catalyse également l'oxydation du groupe hydroxyle introduit en C-2 pour produire le dérivé cétone. Ces séquences s'avèrent utiles à la préparation de plantes transgéniques présentant des concentrations modifiées en gibbérelline 2-oxydase.
