ENZYME-CONTAINING DETERGENT COMPOSITION ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An enzyme-containing detergent composition comprising at least one surfactant and alkaline protease having the following physicochemical properties: (1) Activity: Hydrolyzes casein under alkaline conditions, with an optimum pH range of 10 to 11, and has optimum temperature range for activity of 45°C to 50°C; and (2) Enzyme molecule: The protease is protein having a molecular weight of about 22000 as estimated by a gel filtration method, an isoelectric point of 7.4 as estimated by an electrofocusing method, an absorption peak of 275 to 282 nm in a UV absorption spectrum, IR absorption characteristics as shown in Figure 5, and a serine residue in the active site thereof. This enzyme-containing detergent composition is suitable for washing at a relatively low temperature such as room temperature or less at a high efficiency.
