ABSTRACT OF THE INVENTION The present invention provides an enzyme con- trolled release system and prepared reactant by which an identifiable molecule may be released on demand through the action of an active enzyme. The controlled release system is useful for detec- tion of an analyte of interest present in a test sample in picogram per liter quantities and may be employed in a variety of different modes of use including immunoassays, enzyme amplification systems and the release of pharmacologically active ligands.
