Vulcanized ethylene-propylene-diene (EPDM) rubbers are disclosed that are particularly suited for use in dynamic applications as a replacement for natural rubber parts. The ethylene-propylene-diene rubbers exhibit excellent thermal and oxidative resistance while displaying tensile strength and dynamic fatigue resistance comparable to similar compounds based on natural rubber. The ethylene-propylene-diene rubbers comprise a high molecular weight EPDM, a processing oil, a carbon black, and a cure system containing sulfur, tetramethylthiuram-disulfide and 2-mercaptobenzothiazole.

L'invention porte sur des caoutchoucs vulcanisés d'éthylène-propylène-diène (EPDM) particulièrement adaptés à des applications dynamiques en remplacement des pièces de caoutchouc naturel. Les caoutchoucs d'éthylène-propylène-diène présentent par ailleurs une excellente résistance à la chaleur et à l'oxydation ainsi qu'une résistance à la traction et à la fatigue dynamique comparables aux composés similaires de caoutchouc naturel. Les caoutchoucs d'éthylène-propylène-diène de l'invention se composent d'un EPDM à haute densité; d'une huile de traitement, de noir de carbone, d'un durcisseur sulfuré, de bisulfure de tétraméthylthiuram, et de 2-mercaptobenzothiazole.
