A device and method is described for immobilizing a portion of the epicardium without interrupting the beating of the beating of the heart, which includes a frame provided with means for temporarily anchoring the frame to the epicardium and occlusion means in the form of an expandable member which, upon inflation, temporarily occludes the passage of blood through the vessel or vessels in the operational field defined by the frame.
