EPIHALOHYDRIN/POLYAMINE POLYMERS CONTAINING LOW LEVELS OF DIHALOPROPANOLS, PROCESS FOR MAKING THE SAME, AND PAPER SIZES MADE THEREFROM ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Cationic resins useful as flocculants, retention aids, wet strengthening agents, size promoters, and dispersion stabilizers are provided. The resins are produced by reaction of an epihalo- hydrin and a polyalkylene polyamine in a polymerization reaction, in a manner that substantially reduces the level of dihalopro- panols and other epihalohydrin by-products formed in-situ. The resins having a reduced level of epihalohydrin by-products are used in paper sizing dispersions as the dispersion stabilizer. Such sizing materials have significantly lower levels of dihalo- propanols and other epihalohydrin by-products.
