5493(2) ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE EPOXIDATION OF ETHYLENE A process for the selective epoxidation of ethylene to ethylene oxide comprises reacting ethylene with a hydroperoxide, for example tert-butyl hydroperoxide, in the presence of a complex formed from a Group VB or Group VIB metal and a bidentate, nitrogenous chelate ligand of general formula HO - Ar - CH = NR The reaction may be carried out optionally in the presence of an epoxide such as ethylene oxide or cyclohexene oxide.
