The catalytic performance of a supported silver catalyst in a propylene epoxidation process is improved by first contacting the catalyst at an elevated temperature with a treatment stream comprised of carbon dioxide. The carbon dioxide-treated catalyst is thereafter contacted with a feedstream containing propylene, molecular oxygen, but essentially no carbon dioxide under conditions effective to form propylene oxide.

L'invention traite de la performance catalytique d'un catalyseur d'argent supporté sur un solide qui est améliorée en plaçant ce catalyseur en contact avec un courant de traitement constitué de dioxyde de carbone, à une température élevée. Ce catalyseur traité au dioxyde de carbone est ensuite mis en contact avec un circuit d'amenée contenant du propylène, de l'oxygène moléculaire et essentiellement dépourvu de dioxyde de carbone, dans des conditions permettant de former de l'oxyde de propylène.
