A "fortified" fusion bond epoxy coating resin for pipeline coating has improved impact resistance. The "fortified" epoxy coating resin contains from 5 to 30 parts by weight of fortifier and, to a total of 100 parts combined weight of fortifier/epoxy coating resin, 95 to 70 parts of the epoxy coating resin. The preferred fortifier is an adduct of an acid anhydride and a primary aromatic amine.
