An epoxy resin composition comprising an epoxy resin that is liquid at room temperature and containing on average more than one epoxy group per molecule and a quaternary piperidinium salt as advancement catalyst. When advanced with compounds having two phenolic hydroxyl groups, such compositions give excellent products of low viscosity which are suitable, for example, for use in powder coating compositions.
