This comprises a drivable rotating roller (32) for compacting the material (T) inside a receiver vessel (4) and capable of moving in an essentially horizontal direction (39, 40) about an essentially vertical shaft (5), preferably driven in a rotary fashion. The roller (32) can be supported enabling it to be moved in a direction (6, 7) between the bottom (8) of the vessel and its upper part (9). The vertical preferably rotatable shaft (5) is capable of lateral displacement (39, 40) and/or is supported telescopically.
