A work piece storage device comprises a work piece carrier having a loading region. A plurality of support portions are held in the work piece carrier The support portions extend toward the loading region and arranged to receive a plurality of work pieces thereon. A handling unit is slidably mounted on the support portions for movement between a retracted position distal to the loading region and an advanced position proximal to the loading region. The handling unit is adapted to receive a group of the work pieces thereon and to advance the work pieces therewith as the handling unit moves to its advanced position.
