Memory may be partitioned into ever-sliding FIFOs. Each of the FIFOs may be stacked end-to-end in memory with the oldest data at the base offset and the newest at the end (or viceversa). Each symbol, the pointer may be incremented (modulo the set size) by an appropriate amount (typically J more than for the previous symbol). After each set, the pointers may be incremented by J more than the previous increment and the process starts over, wrapping around the memory if the end of the memory is reached. After a preset number of symbols, the process may restart from an increment of J. Alternatively, the pointers may be decremented rather than incremented. Thus, the newest symbol cannibalizes the memory position vacated by the oldest symbol in the current FIFO, causing the FIFOs to "slide", providing for a very efficient and reliable use of memory for error-correcting code interleaving.
Une mémoire peut être partitionnée en FIFO à glissement continu. Chacune des FIFO peut être empilé bout à bout en mémoire avec les données les plus anciennes à la base et les données les plus récentes à l'extrémité ( ou vice-versa). A chaque symbole, le pointeur doit être incrémenté (module de la taille de l'ensemble) d'une quantité appropriée (habituellement de <i>J</i>, quantité supérieure à celle du symbole précédent). Après chaque ensemble, les pointeurs peuvent être incrémentés de <i>J</i>, supérieur à l'incrément précédent et le processus démarre, s'enroulant autour de la mémoire si l'extrémité de la mémoire est atteinte. Après un certain nombre de symboles préfixés, le processus peut redémarrer à partir d'un incrément <i>J</i>. Dans une variante, les pointeurs peuvent être décrémentés au lieu d'être incrémentés. Ainsi, le nouveau symbole cannibalise la position de mémoire occupée par le symbole plus ancien dans la FIFO courante, entraînant le glissement de cette FIFO, ce qui permet d'obtenir une utilisation de mémoire excellente et fiable pour l'intercalage de code de correction d'erreur.
