Erythromycin derivatives of the following general formula or their salts, which exhibit excellent antimicrobial activities against atypical acid-fast microorganisms and are useful as antimicrobial agents, wherein R1 and R2 are each hydrogen, alkyl, a homo- or hetero-cyclic group, alkyl substituted with a homo- or hetero-cycle, or the like, or R1 and R2 may be united to form a homo- or hetero-cycle; R3 is hydrogen or methyl; R4 is hydroxyl or the like; R5 is hydrogen, hydroxyl, or the like; R6 and R7 are each hydrogen, alkyl, or the like; X is NH or N-O-R8; Y is O-C(=O)-R9, a cladinose derivative, or the like; Z is oxygen or sulfur; and R8 and R9 are each alkyl, a homo- or hetero-cyclic group, alkyl substituted with a homo- or hetero-cycle, or the like.
