Methods are described for the production of neurons or neuronal progenitor cells. Multipotent neural stem cells are proliferated in the presence of growth factors and erythropoietin which induces the generation of neuronal progenitor cells. The erythropoietin may be exogenously applied to the multipotent neural stem cells, or alternatively, the cells can be subjected to hypoxic insult which induces the cells to express erythropoietin.

On réalise la prolifération de cellules souches neurales à potentialités multiples en présence de facteurs de croissance et d'érythropoïétine provoquant la génération de cellules neurales parentes. On peut appliquer l'érythropoïétine de façon exogène aux cellules souches neurales à potentialités multiples ou, dans un autre mode de réalisation, soumettre les cellules à une provocation hypoxique conduisant à l'expression d'érythropoïétine par ces cellules.
