ABSTRACT Novel N-acetyl derivatives designated N-acetyl- esperamicins A1, A2 and A1b are prepared by acetylating known antitumor antibiotics. The new derivatives exhibit both antimicrobial and antitumor activity and have the structures Image wherein R1 and R2 are hydrogen or Image and R3 is -CH(CH3)2 or CH2CH3.
