The present invention provides a channel selection controller and method for establishing a wireless link connecting a central terminal and a subscriber terminal of a wireless telecommunications system, at least two frequency channels being provided over which said wireless link could be established. The channel selection controller comprises: a storage for storing data identifying the at least two frequency channels; a selector for selecting a frequency channel from those listed in said storage; and link acquisition logic for establishing a wireless link on the frequency channel selected by the selector. Further, the selector is responsive to the link acquisition logic being unable to establish said wireless link, to select an alternative frequency channel from those listed in said storage. By this approach, it is possible to increase the number of subscriber terminals that can be supported by the wireless telecommunications system, since if one frequency channel is fully used at the time that a wireless link connecting a particular subscriber terminal with a central terminal is required, then another frequency channel can be selected for the establishment of that wireless link.
L'invention concerne un sélecteur de canaux et un procédé qui permettent d'établir une liaison radio entre un poste central et un poste d'abonné dans un système de radiocommunication comprenant au moins deux canaux de fréquences par lesquels ladite liaison radio peut être établie. Le sélecteur de canaux comprend une mémoire pour stocker les données identifiant au moins lesdits deux canaux de fréquences; une commande de sélection pour sélectionner un canal de fréquence dans ceux listés dans ladite mémoire; et une logique d'acquisition de liaison pour établir une liaison radio sur le canal de fréquence sélectionné par la commande de sélection. La commande de sélection répond à la logique d'acquisition de liaison, lorsque celle-ci est incapable d'établir ladite liaison radio, en sélectionnant un autre canal de fréquence dans ceux listés dans ladite mémoire. Par cette approche, il est possible d'augmenter le nombre de postes d'abonné pouvant être supportés par le système de radiocommunication, puisque si un canal de fréquences est totalement utilisé au moment où une liaison radio entre un poste d'abonné particulier et un poste central est demandée, un autre canal peut être sélectionné pour l'établissement de ladite liaison.
