Ethane is separated from a carbon dioxide-containing feed gas in a demethanizer that receives a rich subcooled reflux stream at very low temperature. Freezing of carbon dioxide is prevented by feeding a temperature-controlled vapor portion of the feed gas to the column, wherein the temperature of the vapor portion is adjusted by routing a portion of the expander discharge through a heat exchanger in response to the tray temperature in the demethanizer. Thus, high separation efficiency is achieved at reduced, or even eliminated carbon dioxide freezing.

Selon l'invention, l'éthane est séparé d'une charge gazeuse contenant du dioxyde de carbone dans un déméthaniseur qui reçoit un courant de reflux riche sous-refroidi à très basse température. La congélation du dioxyde de carbone est évitée en introduisant dans la colonne une partie de vapeur à température contrôlée de la charge gazeuse, la température de la partie de vapeur étant ajustée en faisant passer une partie du refoulement du détendeur par un échangeur de chaleur en réponse à la température de plateau dans le déméthaniseur. Ainsi, une efficacité de séparation élevée est obtenue avec une congélation du dioxyde de carbone réduite, voire éliminée.
