2100881 9212701 PCTABS00014 Disclosed are alkyl ether sulphate mixtures of the formula R1-O-(C2H4O)x-SO3M in which R1 is a straight-chain group with 12-18 C-atoms, M is an alkali or magnesium ion and x has a mean value of 2-10, at least 50 % by wt. of the mixture consisting of homologues with x-1 to x+1 glycol ether groups and the alkyl sulphate content being less than 10 % by wt. when x=0. Such mixtures are suitable for use as neutral-tasting, mucous-membrane-compatible surface-active agents in mouth- and tooth-care agents. They are preferably used in the form of free-flowing powders consisting of 0.1-2 parts by wt. of the alkyl ether sulphate mixture to 1 part by wt. of an inert substrate, preferably fine particulate silica.
