The invention provides a nonionic detergent surfactant which is an ethoxylated alcohol in which the alcohol contains an alkyl group containing from 6 to 11 carbon atoms and in which there are from about 3 to about 12 ethoxy moieties in a peaked distribution such that at least about 70% and less than about 95% of the molecules by weight have an ethoxy content within about two ethoxy moieties of the average ethoxy content.
