ABSTRACT A process for the copolymerization of ethylene with at least one comonomer selected from the group consisting of copolymerizable mono-alphaolefins and nonconjugated polyenes which process is performed in the presence of a liquid aliphatic hydrocarbon reaction medium comprising a liquid alphaolefin utilizing a catalyst composition comprising a vanadium catalyst, an organoaluminum cocata- lyst, and a promoter which is a derivative of certain 4/4,4-trihalobut-2-enoic acids, wherein the molar ratio of promoter to vanadium is about 6:1 or greater.
