ETHYLENE-VINYL ACETATE COPOLYMERIZATION PROCESS ABSTRACT In the production of ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymers in a free radical catalyst initiated high pressure process, explosive decomposition is prevented by contacting the reactor effluent downstream of the reactor outlet with small amounts of free radical scavenger such as a hindered phenolic compound, separat- ing unreacted monomer from the mixture of copolymer, un- reacted monomer and scavenger in a separation zone and recycling the separated monomer to the reactor. -i-
