A digging and/or grabbing tool is mountable on a live boom of an excavator. The tool is swivelable relative to the free end of the boom. The receiving chamber of the tool is formed by a body which includes two side walls, a bottom, a back wall, and a top wall. The top wall carries a coupling which connects the body to the live boom. A soil compacting device, such as a vibration plate, is mounted on the back wall.
