ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A system for the excitation and mapping of natural gases at the earth's surface in which the atom to atom bond within non-polar gases is electrically disturbed to polarize them and rotate them at a resonance frequency uniquely determined by the molecular movement of inertia and angular momentum and in which the excitation frequency band is separate from the emission frequency band, without overlays. The molecular moment of inertia and angular momentum identifies the gas chemically as it is not a characteristic of chemically different molecules. A detector resolves and measures the exicted emissions from the gases and rejects energy reflected from hard targets contained in the excitation energy frequency band.
