A system and method for excitation of photosensitizers is configured to provide desired illumination on targeted eye tissue. The excitation system includes an optical module that generates illumination and a controller to power the optical module and control the shape, intensity or energy level, and duration of the illumination. The optical module includes a contact portion for interfacing with the eye, a treatment beam portion including a light emitter array to generate shaped light patterns and optics to focus the light patterns onto the eye, and a visualization portion to provide visual feedback of treatment through a visualization interface coupled with a microscope. A typical treatment involves the optical module being placed on a diseased eye of a patient by a clinician to project illumination on a diseased portion of the eye. The clinician typically views the eye through the microscope and the optical module during treatment.

L'invention porte sur un système et un procédé d'excitation des éléments photosensibles de l'oeil par projection de lumière sur des tissus cibles. Ledit système comporte: un module optique produisant la lumière, un contrôleur réglant l'alimentation du module optique et la forme, l'intensité ou le niveau d'énergie, et la durée de l'éclairage. Le module optique comporte: une pièce de contact servant d'interface avec l'oeil; un faisceau de traitement comprenant un réseau de sources lumineuses créant des motifs lumineux formés; une optique focalisant la lumière du réseau sur l'oeil; et un dispositif de visualisation permettant de suivre le traitement via une interface de visualisation associée à un microscope. Le traitement normal consiste à placer le module optique sur l'oeil malade et à projeter la lumière sur la partie malade de l'oeil. Le médecin peut normalement observer l'oeil pendant le traitement à l'aide du microscope et du module optique.
