An excitation vector generator to be used in a speech codec comprises a providing system, a storage system and an arranging system. This arranging system arranges a fixed waveform read from the storage system according to a position and a polarity of the pulse of the input impulse vector. Thereby, speech quality improves when a random code vector is decoded with an input impulse vector.

Ce remplacement évite de mémoriser des vecteurs fixes dans une liste fixe de codes (ROM) et permet de limiter considérablement la capacité de la mémoire.
