The present invention provides an exciter assembly for supplying a field current to the rotor windings (16) of a superconducting synchronous machine. The exciter assembly includes a pulse transformer having a stationary primary winding (7) and a secondary winding (10) that is mounted to the rotor of the superconducting synchronous machine for rotation therewith. A switched mode power supply supplies a pulsed voltage to the primary winding (7) of the pulse transformer. The pulsed voltage developed at the secondary winding (10) of the pulse transformer is supplied to the rotor windings through a rectifier semiconductor device (11) and a pair of transfer leads (14). The rotor windings (16) and a flywheel semiconductor device (15) are located inside a cryogenic chamber or cryostat. The flywheel semiconductor device (15) is connected in parallel with the rotor windings (16) and operates in unison with the rectifier semiconductor device (11) in order to provide synchronous rectification of the switched mode power supply output. The switched mode power supply and both the primary and secondary windings (7, 10) of the pulse transformer are located outside the cryostat.

La présente invention concerne un ensemble d~excitation destiné à fournir un courant de champ aux enroulements rotoriques (16) d~une machine synchrone supraconductrice. L~ensemble d~excitation comporte un transformateur d~impulsions comportant un enroulement primaire stationnaire (7) et un enroulement secondaire (10) monté sur le rotor de la machine asynchrone supraconductrice pour tourner avec celle-ci. Une alimentation à découpage fournit une tension pulsée à l~enroulement primaire (7) du transformateur d~impulsions. La tension pulsée formée au niveau de l~enroulement secondaire (10) du transformateur d~impulsions est fournie aux enroulements rotoriques par l~intermédiaire d~un dispositif redresseur à semiconducteur (11) et d~une paire de conducteurs de transfert (14). Les enroulements rotoriques (16) et un dispositif à semiconducteur à effet de volant (15) sont placés à l~intérieur d~une enceinte cryogénique ou d~un cryostat. Le dispositif à semiconducteur à effet de volant (15) est monté en parallèle avec les enroulements rotoriques (16) et fonctionne à l~unisson du dispositif redresseur à semiconducteur (11) de façon à réaliser le redressement synchrone de la sortie de l~alimentation à découpage. L~alimentation à découpage et les enroulements primaire et secondaire (7, 10) du transformateur d~impulsions sont situés à l~extérieur du cryostat.
