An exclusive memory region control system in a computer system has a CPU and a main memory including an exclusive memory region. The exclusive memory region has a small control area provided in the exclusive memory region in the main memory and including data designating whether a software lock is applied to the exclusive memory region. The system comprises a hardware lock control unit for performing a hardware lock of said small control area by comparing an access address with a lock address and a software lock control unit for reading the content of said small control area without a hardware lock being applied to said small control area and for performing the software lock of the exclusive memory region by using register information in the CPU.
