A paint spray booth (301) utilizes an exhaust system (302a, 302b) extending longitudinally along the path of the articles (312) to be painted having an adjustment mechanism (336; 536; 836) for varying the width of the exhaust inlets (304a,b; 504; 804) extending longitudinally for substantially the entire length of the air exhaust element and a downwardly slanting bottom surface (324) of the exhaust elements for yielding powder overspray of uniform density to a filter media. Adjusting the width of the longitudinally extending exhaust inlet (304a,b; 504; 804) spreads an adjustable pressure drop over the slot opening. Adjusting the velocity of air flow through the exhaust elements substantially avoids powder paint build-up at the exhaust inlet. The slanted configuration of the exhaust elements (302a, 302b), in conjunction with the adjustment mechanism, improves uniformity of filter life by providing a substantially even distribution of powder overspray to a filter media. The invention finds particular advantage in powder spray booth applications and is adapted to modularization thereby enabling retrofitting of existing spray booths with apparatus arranged in accordance with the principles of the invention.

En réglant la largeur du conduit d'évacuation (304a,b; 504; 804) s'étendant longitudinalement, on obtient une chute de pression réglable qui se répartit sur l'ouverture en fente. En réglant la vitesse du flux d'air traversant les éléments d'évacuation, on évite pour ainsi dire toute accumulation de peinture pulvérisée au niveau du conduit d'évacuation. La configuration inclinée des éléments d'évacuation (302a, 302b), associée au mécanisme de réglage, permet d'améliorer l'uniformité de la durée de vie des filtres, en assurant une distribution pratiquement uniforme des surplus de peinture pulvérisée sur les filtres. Cette invention trouve des avantages particuliers comme cabine de peinture au pistolet et elle peut être conçue sous forme modulaire, ce qui permet d'adapter après coup des cabines de peinture au pistolet sur des systèmes réalisés selon les principes de cette invention.
