A powdery agent for cleaning exhaust gas, for example flue gas, according to the dry adsorption principle, consists of a mixture of active cokes with inert materials with no dust explosivity. In order to prepare a powdery, active coke-containing mixture with up to 30 % by mass carbon which when used in a gas flow cleaning-process could not experience in none of its fractions a concentration shift leading to the formation of dust explosive fractions at oxygen concentrations of up to 21 % by volume, whatever the operation conditions, the grain size distribution of at least one inert component is adapted to the grain size distribution of the active coke component so that in a gas medium at rest the settling speed of the top grains of the inert component is equal to or greater than the settling speed of the top grains of the active coke component. This agent may be used in all flue gas cleaning plants in separately driven, upstream or downstream adsorption stages operated according to the gas flow cleaning principle.
