ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE In a fuel injection system for internal combustion engines an exhaust gas sensor is periodically tested under controlled engine operating conditions for the purpose of detecting any failures in this sensor. The failure detection system generates an electrical signal in response to a failed sensor which signal is used to inform the engine operator of the failure of the sensor. -1-
