A method is provided for producing an exhaust processor assembly of an exhaust system to treat a combustion product. The method includes providing a unitary elongated container having first and second end sections which are reduced in size to accommodate connection to the exhaust system. A substrate is first loaded within the unitary elongated container prior to the reducing step to filter the combustion product conducted therethrough. The end sections are reduced in size by converging them toward a longitudinal axis defined by the elongated container. The reducing step is performed by inserting the end section into a die with the longitudinal axis of the unitary elongated container perpendicular to a die face defined by the die.
