ABSTRACT An exhaust silencer has a sheet-metal outer casing (1). Abutting the inner cylindrical wall of the casing is the cylindrical outer surface of at least one ceramic element (6). In order to prevent the occurrence of disturbing resonant vibrations in the silencer and in order to provide a rigid structure, the inner wall of the casing (1) is firmly connected to the cylindrical outer surface of the ceramic element (6), for example by shrinking the casing around the ceramic element.
