An outboard motor is provided with an engine holder, an engine mounted to an upper portion of the engine holder, a drive shaft housing mounted to a lower portion of the engine holder and an exhaust structure connecting an exhaust inlet opening formed to an upper surface of the engine holder to an exhaust outlet opening formed to a lower surface of the engine holder, in an installed state. The exhaust structure comprises an exhaust port passage extending downward from the engine and communicated with the exhaust inlet opening, an exhaust tube extending downward into the drive shaft housing and an exhaust passage formed between the exhaust inlet and outlet openings, the exhaust passage extending horizontally in the engine holder and being formed with a catalyst chamber in which a catalyst means is arranged horizontally.

Cette invention concerne un groupe propulseur hors bord composé d'un bâti support de moteur, du moteur lui-même fixé à la partie supérieure du bâti support, d'un arbre de transmission fixé à la partie inférieure du bâti support et d'un organe d'évacuation des gaz d'échappement intercalé entre une ouverture d'admission des gaz ménagée dans une face supérieure du bâti support et une ouverture de rejet des gaz ménagée dans une face inférieure dudit bâti. L'organe d'évacuation des gaz d'échappement comprend un raccord entre le moteur et l'ouverture d'admission des gaz dans le bâti support, un tube d'évacuation se prolongeant vers le bas dans le logement de l'arbre de transmission et un passage d'évacuation reliant, selon un tracé horizontal, les ouvertures d'admission et de rejet et comportant une enceinte de catalyse où les éléments catalytiques sont disposés à l'horizontale.
